WHAT IS LFB – LEAN FACTORY BUILDING

What and Why of LFB

There are people working in “Lean facility design” as well in “Lean Architecture”.  Unfortunately, both work separately, though believe in the concept of Lean manufacturing, developed as TPS, long back in Toyota Motor Co. We pioneer the concept as LFB – Lean Factory Building, where in we blend both lean manufacturing as well as the Building Architecture. Here in we use the Lean concept for design of your workplace as well as the factory building. It helps the client to get re-designed the manufacturing process, workplace as the per the re-designed process and the factory building architectural design under one shelter. The whole concept of LFB is based on following principles.

Principles of LFB

  • Process First : In LFB, the manufacturing process is defined and optimized before any architectural decisions are made. Value streams, takt, capacities, and flow logic form the foundation of design. Layouts emerge from process needs, not from plot or structural constraints. This ensures the building supports productivity instead of limiting it. The factory becomes a true enabler of value creation.
  • Design as One System : Lean manufacturing, workplace design, material flow, and architecture are treated as one unified system. There are no silos, handovers, or fragmented responsibilities.Every decision is evaluated for its impact on the entire factory ecosystem. This integration eliminates mismatches between process and infrastructure. The result is a coherent, efficient, and reliable factory design.
  • Flow by Design : Flow is embedded into the building, not added later through adjustments. Material, people, and information move logically with minimum interruption. Aisles, docks, levels, and adjacencies are shaped to support continuous flow. Unnecessary motion, transport, and waiting are designed out at the source. The building itself reinforces Lean behaviour every day.

  • Built for Change : Factories must evolve as products, volumes, and technologies change. LFB designs buildings that adapt without major civil  modifications. Structural grids, utilities, and spaces allow easy reconfiguration. Future expansion follows the same flow logic, not compromise. The factory remains Lean, relevant, and competitive over its lifetime.
